Several generations of the McAllister family placed the highest value on education of their children. All three of the Major’s children attended good schools, and the two daughters were teachers in Colorado Springs.
Special tours of this 1873 house museum are designed especially for children and are available anytime of the year. The curator and staff delight in these tours and make sure that each child receives attention and answers to questions.
Activities on these tours include hands-on events in the Carriage House, and a genuine glimpse into daily family life in the late 1800s inside the Museum.
Each such tour lasts about 1 to 2 hours and is available to all children, including day-care and summer camps. Children are invited to bring their lunches and picnic on the lawns.
The tours meet all of the Colorado School standards for historical study and are tailored to the desired grade level. The groups are divided into subgroups and work in specific centers.
Arrangements for an educational tour can be made for small or large groups by contacting the curator at 719.635.7925 or mcallister.curator@gmail.com.
