Speaker: Eric Metzger, Executive Director of the McAllister House Museum

Title: Hicksite Quakers and Their Relationship to Colorado Springs

Abstract: In 1827, a group of Quakers established themselves as a separate sect of Quakerism. Their leader was Elias Hicks and the movement became known as Hicksite Quakerism. Many of the Quakers that moved to Colorado Springs in the early years were of the Hicksite sect. Recent research at the Museum has established a firm family and social link between significant Hicksite Quakers and the McAllister Family. In this talk we will reveal those associations and examine the relationships between the McAllisters and some interesting Hicksite Quakers.
